Private Atlas Series

I travel, gathering visual details like flowers to be pressed into my private atlas.  As a sculptor who often uses film and cameraless photography, the images I make can be read as multi-dimensional. They illustrate the impulse to movement, the action required, the poetry discovered.  The image is a document, the journey is the work.

Photographic practice gives me the opportunity to approach the world and art-making playfully, leaving room for chance and the joy of improvisation.  35mm film and an old Leica do not guarantee the image I intended. Polaroid film is pure luck.

Joiwind holds a BA Spatial Arts, MA Art in Public Space and a doctorate in Chinese Medicine, all of which she uses to explore both interior and exterior space.  She is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in photography, textiles, cast glass, and poetry.
